A reunion that was years in the making—and will be remembered for years to come—took place at the North Oaks Golf Club on September 24th, 2018. The North Oaks Legacy Event, founded and hosted by Krista Wolter, a realtor with Coldwell Banker Burnet, reunited over 250 longtime residents and celebrated their many years of contributions along with the unique advantages to living in North Oaks. All residents that have lived in North Oaks for 25 years+ along with their adult family members were invited to attend.
As an advocate for longtime residents and keeping generations strong within the community, Krista says, "this celebration has been on my mind and brewing in my heart for the past three years." This idea was set in motion from her time spent both living and working in North Oaks. “My in-laws built their home in North Oaks in the 70’s and then we moved in 3 blocks away in the late 90’s so that our three young children could grow up in this beautiful community near their grandparents. Our story wouldn’t be the same without the longtime residents who touched our lives and the lives of our kids,” says Wolter.
Contributors to the event included the North Oaks Legacy Committee, North Oaks Golf Club, North Oaks Company, North Oaks Living, Waverly Gardens, Krista Wolter and Coldwell Banker Burnet. As guests left the event, they were given a personalized gift—their North Oaks address in North Oaks street sign fashion. Marie Tobin expressed gratitude by saying “The gift was inspirational—thank you for organizing a spectacular event!”
Residents were asked to submit their North Oaks memories along with photos so that their story could be honored during the event. From inventors, teachers, mothers to mayors and CEOs, the Legacy Event was spilling with a rich history. Joan Brainard & Dick Leonard were honored as the co-authors of Three Bold Ventures: The History of North Oaks, MN. Dorothy Yarusso is the last surviving nurse who took care of polio victims in 1948 in St. Paul. Missy Patty, a local bird expert, was remembered by many members who recalled bringing injured birds to her over the years. The list goes on and on. The North Oaks Legacy Committee & sponsors would like to thank ALL its longtime members for making North Oaks an incredible place to call home.
